That reminds me of a movie that came out in 1980-81 called Polyester. My ex took me to see it and I don’t remember much about the film other than it was touted as being in “Odorama”. The film starred Divine and Tab Hunter, and as you entered the theater, you were given a scratch and sniff card to use during the movie. The card had numbers from 1 to maybe 6, with a scratch-able area under the number. The whole idea was to scratch and sniff the card when the words flashed on-screen with the specific number to scratch. This allowed the audience to participate in the movie, basically, viewers could smell what they saw on-screen. I guess it didn’t go over big because I never heard of a movie with scratch and sniff cards since then.
Scratch and sniff cards did become popular in the advertizing industry however, allowing customers to sniff the odor of the latest perfume, or the newest scent of fabric softener. These cards can still be found today in popular fashion magazines.
